The MOWELFUND FILM INSTITUTE (MFI) is a unique film training center in Southeast Asia and is the educational arm of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, Inc. (MOWELFUND).

The Institute is a response to the need of raising consciousness among filmmakers and audiences for a better film culture in the country. Its objective is to develop wider base of filmmakers, wider film usage, and alternative venues.

Some notable alumni like Raymond Red, Brillante Mendoza, and Lav Diaz have won awards for their innovative works in local and international short film festivals, including Cannes and Berlin Film Festivals.

MFI recognizes the need to elevate the standards of film appreciation in the country through a specialized Mobile Cinema. Unlike previous Mobile Cinema workshops conducted by MFI which targets local government units and communities, the reformatted project focuses on colleges and universities offering Mass Communication degrees and those under the MAKABAYAN subject for elementary and highschool students. The program combines film screenings with basics of film language coupled with Filipino culture. Also, introduction to basic components of creating a motion picture.
